Story
Welcome to the Indigenous Reserves Conservation Project
Discover the success story of the Indigenous Reserves of Laguna Niñal, Cocuy, Loma Baja, and Loma Alta, nestled within GuainÃa’s department in Colombia, in the municipality of InÃrida. Spanning 131,854 hectares of biodiverse rainforest, these reserves are a testament to sustainable conservation efforts.
Named for the Sikuani word “UNU” meaning “forest” and the Puinave word “MAI” meaning “stream,” the project stands as a beacon of environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. Completed with the collaborative efforts of local communities, this initiative has safeguarded vital ecosystems and benefited over 400 residents.
Our achievements include preserving rich biodiversity, enhancing community livelihoods through sustainable practices, and fostering a deep respect for indigenous cultures and traditions. By protecting these ancestral lands, we ensure a legacy of environmental sustainability and resilience for future generations.
Explore the legacy of conservation at the Indigenous Reserves of GuainÃa, where nature and culture thrive in harmony.
